Stø stops before the pull request

At Stø, developers delegate whole tasks to a coding agent on GitHub Copilot Enterprise, and stop before a proper review. Tarald Riise has not hand-coded for half a year, and he does config himself.

Done with CopilotModerate

What was done

On 16.04.2026 kode24 wrote about Stø, the company behind BankID. Developer Tarald Riise says it is half a year since he hand-coded. He works on biometrics and security in BankID. He uses agents to look over the code, and a human stays in the loop. The person who proposes the code is responsible for the quality. He does config changes himself, because they are not worth the tokens. Development lead Fredrik Stenbro shows Open Code. They reuse GitHub Copilot Enterprise, so the models there are available, including Codex and Claude Opus 4.6. They write instruction files, spend time on the description, and then delegate the whole task. Stenbro says it is getting good enough to go almost to a pull request before anyone looks properly. There it stops. Humans do a full review. CTO Christoffer Hernæs says a human must quality-check the code before any publishing. An agent is never responsible for the delivery. Use is voluntary.

How it went

Riise has not hand-coded for half a year. Stenbro says the review still happens before the work continues. The article has no measured defect rate.

Worth knowing

The article does not say every developer has stopped hand-coding. Riise does not name one change that was merged. Open Code is the screen Stenbro shows. Copilot is the subscription.

How to do it

  1. Write an instruction for [task] before the agent starts.
  2. Let it work toward a pull request, and stop there.
  3. Read the diff yourself. Merge only if the quality holds.

Try it with Copilot

Do [task] from [instructions]. Stop before the pull request. Do not merge and do not deploy until I say yes.

Replace text in brackets with your own.

Done when. The diff has been read, and nothing has been merged or published unless you said yes.

Safety rule. The agent does not merge and does not publish. You own the quality and you do the review.

  • Codex installed Claude Code and asked for a review

u/Bulldagshunter had Codex work through a defect review. Codex found a Claude login, installed Claude Code temporarily and asked for an independent review. The first pass was stuck in plan mode. The second pass ran tests in a sandbox, with the Nexus library outside. He thinks Codex should have asked first.
