Keep long agent jobs moving with regular nudges

A developer noticed that Codex slowed down the longer a big task ran. While supervised, the agent could finish 20 items in an hour, but left overnight it would often deliver just 2 in five hours. The fix was a small add-on with a skill and a Python timer. Every 30 minutes it reminds the agent to collect finished work, tackle blockers and keep going. The developer describes the improvement as huge.

What was done

A developer noticed that Codex slowed down the longer a big task ran. While supervised, the agent could finish 20 items in an hour, but left overnight it would often deliver just 2 in five hours. The fix was a small add-on with a skill and a Python timer. Every 30 minutes it reminds the agent to collect finished work, tackle blockers and keep going. The developer describes the improvement as huge.

How to do it

  1. Paste the prompt into the tool, and replace the text in brackets with your own.
  2. Read the answer through. Do not send, delete or publish anything until you have seen it yourself.
  3. Check the original before you trust a figure, a name or a date.

Try it with Codex

I am going to let you work on [task] for a long time without me watching. Break it into items, and write a status in [file] every 30 minutes: what is done, what is blocked and what you are doing now. If you are stuck on the same thing twice, try another way or tell me. Do not write new plans instead of doing the work. You are done when every item is delivered and checked.

Replace text in brackets with your own.

  • Build conference slides that follow your organisation's branding

Olivia was to run an AI workshop at a conference in September. In Claude Cowork Olivia dropped in a recent presentation to keep the organisation's branding, and dictated the brief. Claude tightened the structure and made the slides, which can be edited freely. A week before the conference the file had to be delivered as PPTX in a different aspect ratio, and Cowork converted it. A lot was changed and the speaker notes were heavily edited, but it saved time.

  • Build a web portal for your sound effects with ChatGPT

Shared on r/ChatGPT: a user making an audio-led drama series alone had about 700 sound effects and could not find the right file. The user asked ChatGPT to build a new folder structure in Dropbox, rename the files and make a local web page for searching and playing the effects. It took about 15 minutes with a couple of design rounds, but the saving of hundreds of hours is the user's own estimate and only holds if the series continues.

  • Collect unfinished tasks from your agent sessions in Todoist

An OpenClaw user no longer adds tasks by hand. Three times a day the agent goes through recent sessions, pulls out pending tasks, decisions and blockers and adds them to Todoist. Projects show which stage an item is in, labels show who owns it, and comments in Todoist are read and answered at the next sweep. Private sessions are kept out. The user does not yet know whether the setup will last.
