Upgrade a framework across many services with agents

Brex runs Micronaut across more than 500 microservices. A first attempt to upgrade 50 of them from version 3 to 4 took three engineers a full quarter. A year later they built a pipeline of their own agents in Cursor that write, build and fix the code themselves. One engineer then migrated 180 services in one month, which they count as 32 times faster per person, but they also describe missteps along the way.

How to do it

  1. Paste the prompt into the tool, and replace the text in brackets with your own.
  2. Read the answer through. Do not send, delete or publish anything until you have seen it yourself.
  3. Check the original before you trust a figure, a name or a date.

Try it with Cursor

Upgrade [service] from [framework and version] to [new version]. Follow the migration guide in [file], build, run the tests and fix errors until everything passes. Add new error patterns to the guide. Show me the changes that need judgement, such as handling newly nullable values, before you open a pull request. You are done when the service builds, the tests pass and it runs in [test environment] with no new errors in the log.

Replace text in brackets with your own.

  • Add a new feature from a screenshot with an arrow

A developer showed his wife a list app he has built and asked whether she would change anything. She wanted a way to create a new list from the items that were not ticked off. He wrote the request to the agent in Cursor and attached a screenshot with an arrow showing where the button should go. Minutes later the change was in, and seconds later it was live. He writes that there is still more to do.

  • Build your own markdown viewer that opens instantly

A developer on Hacker News asked Claude Code to build a markdown viewer for macOS, from the same codebase as the JSON viewer he already had. He asked for it to open fast. He now says it opens and displays a file faster than any other app he uses on macOS. He offers it as an example that you can build small personal programs yourself, but he shows no measurements of the speed.
