Switch between Claude and Codex with a shared Obsidian memory

Johan Slåttavik can switch between AI agents such as Claude and Codex without explaining the project again. He keeps project history, documentation and decisions in a development memory in Obsidian that the agents can use.

What was done

Johan Slåttavik can switch between AI agents such as Claude and Codex without explaining the project again. He keeps project history, documentation and decisions in a development memory in Obsidian that the agents can use. The post does not show how the agents read and update the memory, or how much time it saves.

How to do it

  1. Paste the prompt into the tool, and replace the text in brackets with your own.
  2. Read the answer through. Do not send, delete or publish anything until you have seen it yourself.
  3. Check the original before you trust a figure, a name or a date.

Try it with Codex

Read [the project folder] and create a note in [the Obsidian vault] with three parts: what the project does, decisions we have made and what is left. Keep it short, with a date on each decision. Do not include passwords, keys or customer data. Update the note every time we end a session. You are done when another agent can read the note and say what the next step is.

Done when. Another agent can read the note and say what the next step is.

  • Add a new feature from a screenshot with an arrow

A developer showed his wife a list app he has built and asked whether she would change anything. She wanted a way to create a new list from the items that were not ticked off. He wrote the request to the agent in Cursor and attached a screenshot with an arrow showing where the button should go. Minutes later the change was in, and seconds later it was live. He writes that there is still more to do.

  • Build your own markdown viewer that opens instantly

A developer on Hacker News asked Claude Code to build a markdown viewer for macOS, from the same codebase as the JSON viewer he already had. He asked for it to open fast. He now says it opens and displays a file faster than any other app he uses on macOS. He offers it as an example that you can build small personal programs yourself, but he shows no measurements of the speed.
