Compare electricity contracts without drowning in the terms

Ask ChatGPT to sort spot, fixed price and what the offers actually say. Look up the prices yourself, for example at the Norwegian Consumer Council.

This is a way of working from the editors, not advice from Skatteetaten, NAV, Altinn or an accountant. Check figures, deadlines and decisions against the original.

How to do it

  1. 1

Collect the contracts you are considering. Note the product name, whether it is spot, fixed or something else, the lock-in period, and any surcharge or monthly fee as written in the offer.

  2. 2

Do not ask the model for «the cheapest electricity today». It does not know your price.

  3. 3

Ask for a table with the same rows for each contract: price type, lock-in, surcharge, monthly fee, and what is unclear. If a term is not in the text, the cell should say «not stated».

  4. 4

Ask for a short explanation of spot versus fixed price, and three questions you can ask the supplier, for example about cancellation and invoice fees.

  5. 5

Look the contracts up on strompris.no at the Norwegian Consumer Council before you choose. Use the table as a reminder, not as the answer.

Example prompt

Example prompt

I am comparing two Norwegian electricity contracts. I will paste the terms below, without my national identity number or meter id.

[Paste the terms]

Compare them using only information that is in the text. If a term is not mentioned, write «not stated». Explain in plain words how spot and fixed price differ, and list three questions I should ask the supplier. Do not estimate what I will pay.
