What was done
Rikitan recorded his grandmother's old VHS tapes onto his laptop with a $20 capture stick. Then he gave Claude Code one prompt. From 31 hours of footage it made one clip per event, read the date in the picture, cleaned up colour and hiss, sorted everything into folders and put it on her smart TV as a menu. He did the recording himself, but the post does not show how accurate the cuts were.
How to do it
- Paste the prompt into the tool, and replace the text in brackets with your own.
- Read the answer through. Do not send, delete or publish anything until you have seen it yourself.
- Check the original before you trust a figure, a name or a date.
Try it with Claude Code
Here is a folder with [number] digitised video files from old tapes. Split each file into clips, one per event, and name every clip after the date shown in the picture. Sort the clips into folders such as [weddings, birthdays, holidays]. Do not delete or overwrite the original files. Show me the list of clips and names before you move anything. You are done when every clip sits in a folder and plays on [TV or media player].
